Positions Available

PAYROLL COORDINATOR – Required Immediately

Lions Housing Centresis currently accepting applications for a full time Payroll Coordinator.  

This position is responsible to ensure for the preparation and processing of the biweekly payroll while following Lions Housing Centres procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Enter new hire information into QHR.
  • Review and ensure the accuracy of approved timesheets.
  • Prepare and run payroll on a biweekly basis
  • Send Data Capture report to HEB.
  • Track and deduct all garnishment and special payroll deductions.
  • Run reports
  • Maintain employee data electronically on QHR by updating information as required. Ensure accuracy and changes are made on a timely basis.
  • Filing
  • Maintain confidentiality of payroll and personal employee information.
  • Complete Records of Employment.
  • Review and distribution of T4 Statements.
  • Act as backup for benefits administration.
  • Assist employees with payroll inquiries.
  • Communicate with internal and external contacts by phone or email.
  • Work with the Human Resources Generalist on HR/Payroll assignments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Maintains confidentiality in all matters pertaining to residents, staff and facility operations
  • Practices in a manner that supports the Respectful Workplace Policy
  • Participates in mandatory annual education
  • Work collaboratively with all staff as required

Job Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Completion of a formal payroll or accounting program preferred
  • Two (2) years of Payroll experience
  • Able to read, write and speak English
  • Experience with electronic payroll systems as asset
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient with MS office Software
  • Good time management and problem solving skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Good organizational abilities and attention to detail
  • Data entry experience with high accuracy rate
  • Good judgement and ability to exercise discretion
  • Physically and mentally able to perform all duties of the role

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Lions Housing Centresis currently accepting applications for a full time Maintenance Technician.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Grade 12 High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Power Engineer Class 5 (preferred), BOMI-SMT certification.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in building operations and maintenance (i.e. carpentry, plumbing, painting, drywall, electrical, troubleshooting, landscaping, HVAC and small equipment maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of current products and procedures associated with painting and decorating.
  • Ability to safely use and maintain all hand tools, electric tools and equipment including but not limited to ladders and scaffolding.
  • Ability to work with blueprints, plans, specifications and other related technical data.
  • Working knowledge of building electrical, mechanical and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Knowledge of MS Office and facilities maintenance software (HIPPO).
  • Customer service oriented with the ability to effectively work within a diverse community
  • Ability to push, pull, lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Exercise initiative and good judgment.
  • Must be able to work in noisy, hot/cold environments and in confined spaces.
  • Must have the ability to organize and prioritize tasks.

PROPERTY MANAGER – LIONS MANOR

Lions Housing Centres is accepting applications for an experienced full-time Property Manager.   Reporting to the Executive Director, the incumbent is responsible for the building management, maintenance and leasing for Lions Manor.  The successful candidate will have knowledge of the RTB rules and regulations, a minimum of 5 years experience working in a management or leadership capacity preferably in a not-for-profit environment. Organization, planning, communication and leadership skills are essential as is knowledge of MS Office. Working knowlege of the HIPPO program would be an asset.

Duties include:

  • Conducts inspections of property and address any concern noted resident relations.
  • Marketing any vacancies/showing of vacancies/process of applications.
  • Complete inspection of all suites becoming vacant to determine work needed to upgrade suite for incoming tenant or where work is requested in order to maintain tenancy at renewal; negotiated with resident to secure renewal when necessary.
  • Responsible for hiring, training of cleaning personnel.
  • Thorough knowledge of residential leases, lease renewal and Residential Tenancies Branch (RTC) forms.
  • Excellent customer service skills, including answering phone and communicating with residents.
  • Five years (5) experience working in a management or leadership capacity.
  • Excellent written and verbal and communication skills.
  • Proven customer service/resident relation skills.
  • Must be personable and have a positive, energetic attitude.
  • Must be flexible and willing to change roles or responsibilities as required.
  • Highly organized, results orientated and ability to work in a multi-functional team environment.
  • Attend Residential Tenancies Board and Residential Tenancies Commission hearing and/or appeals, including preparation of files, for all claims.

Applicants must have:

  • 5 years experience,
  • strong command of the English language, and
  • excellent computer skills.

TENANT COMPANION – Casual

Lions Housing Centres is accepting applications for an experienced Casual Tenant Companion

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Experience in long term care settings an asset.
  • Supportive Housing experience preferred.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Organizational abilities, with a particular emphasis on time management.
  • Good interpersonal skills and an expressed willingness to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • A valid Food Handlers Certificate
  • Read, write and speak English

Duties include:

  • Directly providing support and supervision for residents, creating a safe and warm traditional home environment,
  • Assisting residents with personal care. This includes moderate housekeeping, laundry, medication reminders, meal preparation and clean up,
  • Regular communication with families,
  • Providing daily social, physical, and recreational activities for the residents, and
  • Attending staff meetings and educational sessions (particularly in the area of Alzheimer and dementia care).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1-year quantity food service kitchen experience
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Valid Food Handlers Certificate
  • Long term care facility experience
  • Ability to push food carts (20 to 50 pounds)
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions properly
  • Ability to read, write and speak English

CALL FOR BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEMBERS FOR LIONS HOUSING CENTRES

Lions Housing Centres (“LHC”) is comprised of four facilities:  Lions Manor, Lions Place, Lions View and Lions Personal Care Centre.  We provide affordable housing to 55+ seniors, adult day club programs, supportive housing and a personal care home.  LHC’s mission is to serve the evolving needs of seniors, families and the community through specifically designed facilities, personalized services and quality programs.  Our programs and services are currently being provided to more than 1,000 adults.

Our Board of Directors and staff team is dedicated to effective and efficient operations, continuous improvement, capacity-building, collaboration and financial stewardship.  Many of our Board members are Lions Club of Winnipeg members whose motto is “We Serve” which they have been doing for over 50 years as a non-profit service agency.  Our Board is committed to upholding a reputation of excellence.

In the next few years LHC will embark on many new projects which include:  upgrading and refreshing Lions Place, renovating the three remaining floors of Lions Manor South Tower, and designing and implementing new build designs and uses for our vacant land.  These are just a few of the exciting projects.

In order to help achieve our strategic goals, LHC is seeking qualified candidates for our Board of Directors.

LHC is currently governed by 8 persons from the both the community and the Lions Club of Winnipeg who volunteer in the role of Board Directors.  Elected members will begin their term at the Annual General Meeting which is scheduled to take place in August 2018.  Board Directors will serve approximately 2-3 hours monthly at Board meetings (held the first Tuesday of the month) and 2-3 hours on committees of the Board (if applicable).

The Nominating Committee welcomes expressions of interest from persons working or living in Winnipeg, who share an interest and commitment in supporting older adults to live in wellness and dignity and want to contribute on a volunteer basis to our organization.
