Location – 320 Sherbrook St

Our 116-bed accredited not-for-profit personal care home is part of the Lions Manor Complex.

Lions Housing Centres pursued the addition of long-term care and with the sod turning on January 13, 1999, the dream came closer to reality. The official opening took place in May 2000 and within weeks, Lions Personal Care Centre became home to 116 residents.

Lions Personal Care Centre practices a resident-centered approach to care and decision-making. This means we are committed to the principles and values of respect, dignity, autonomy and to honouring residents’ rights to full participation in any decision-making process which affects their lives. Such participation is welcomed and encouraged at an individual, community and organizational level.

We are committed to providing innovative best practice care to meet the needs of our residents, treating them with dignity, honesty and understanding while being sensitive and empathetic to their individual needs.

Recreation Program

The Recreation program promotes quality of life for each resident. Programs are designed to meet the therapeutic, social and recreational needs of each resident. We encourage conversation, laughter, mental stimulation, and physical activity. Planned activity programs include exercise, bingo, music and sing-alongs, baking and arts and crafts.

Spiritual Care

The provision of spiritual care is a central goal at Lions Housing Centres. It is provided through a variety of services to meet the needs of the residents through visitation, palliative care and worship services.

Visitation by the resident’s own clergy or spiritual care representative is very much encouraged. However, it is much appreciated for such visitors to identify themselves with the staff when they visit so they are aware that the residents’ spiritual needs are being met. It is also recommended that church representatives leave their contact information with the nursing staff should they wish to be notified in the event of an emergency.

Service times are outlined in the Recreation calendar.

Take a Tour

We encourage you to contact our social worker at (204) 784-2705 and request a tour of Lions Personal Care Centre where you will have an opportunity to ask questions about the care centre, programs and services that are available.

Food Services

We are proud that all food production is onsite in our Lions Manor Kitchen. We strive to cater to the individual needs of our residents. A dietitian is available to assess the resident’s nutritional needs. The dietitian also ensures our menu follows the guidelines listed in the Canada Food Guide. Meals are prepared in the kitchen and transported safely then served in the assigned dining rooms on each floor.

We also provide catering services for special functions such as birthday parties, anniversaries or just a family get together.

Residents are also able to go to the Historian Café on the main level of Lions Manor to enjoy a meal or coffee.

Housekeeping and Laundry Services

Following high standards for cleanliness, Lions Personal Care Centre’s housekeeping department aims to provide a safe, clear and comfortable environment. Duties include cleaning the resident’s room and bathrooms, as well as all common areas throughout the building.

Personal laundry is done onsite in our commercial laundry department. Laundry is collected daily, washed and brought back to the resident suite and put away. We remind you that clothing to be laundered at our facility must be able to withstand high temperatures.

Nurse Practitioner

A nurse practitioner is the primary medical care provider for all residents onsite Monday to Friday. The medical director is available for consultation and is on call after hours and weekends.

Rehabilitation Services

Rehabilitation services are provided by an occupational therapist and rehabilitation aide. They assess each residents on admission to determine their individual needs.

Social Worker

The social worker maintains the personal care home’s waiting list and maintains contact with applicants and their families. The social worker coordinates our admissions and supports the new resident and family through the transition process, helping them adjust to their new environment.

Hairdressing Services

Hair care is a basic need, but hair care services in our facility are so much more: the touch, the conversation, and the “new look” can create feelings of change, newness, and hope. Enjoy pampering by our qualified professionals in our on-site, full service hair salon.

Services are available Tuesday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

How to Apply

To apply for admission to Lions Personal Care Centre, please contact the Winnipeg Home Care Intake office at (204) 940-2655 to initiate the process for Personal Care Home placement.
Eligibility for Personal Care Home placement is based on a multidisciplinary assessment conducted through the Long-Term Care Access Centre and Panel Review Board. The assessment is carried out on the applicant either in the community through the Home Care Program or in the hospital. The completed assessment is presented to the Panel Review Board. The day the application is approved by the Panel Review Board is referred to as the Panel Date. Applicants accepted for placement are placed on a waiting list to the Personal Care Home of their choice. Temporary placement to an Interim Long-Term Care facility may occur while waiting for permanent placement.
When Lions Personal Care Centre receives an application, a pre-admission assessment is completed to ensure we can meet the individual’s needs. We may decline an application if the individual’s care needs cannot be met by the facility.
